It's going to be a busy travel holiday season.
With just a week away from Thanksgiving, 49.1 million Americans are expected to hit the roads for the holiday — that's more than last year, according to AAA.
If you’re traveling this year for the holidays, you'll be joined with about 800,000 more Americans on the roads compared to 2022, but not quite as many as pre-pandemic in 2019.
Here are the times and dates you need to know from AAA:
The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is the absolute worst time to travel, specifically from 2 to 6 p.m. Travelers might want to leave before 11 a.m.
Thanksgiving — the worst time is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Travelers should leave before or after.
Black Friday — Avoid driving from noon to 4 p.m.
And the weekend — The worst time is 3 to 5 p.m. Travelers should try to leave before noon.
Also, the national average cost for a gallon of gas is down from last year. It’s currently 3.34. This is 24 cents, about a quarter cheaper than last Thanksgiving, according to AAA.
